a beautiful life photo
these images are about the soul of an afternoon spent at laguna beach with my two children. there is very little posing or staging done when i photograph people. i really try to capture the feeling of the moment, and show the memory of that feeling. my work is always imperfect, but some of the most gorgeous times to push the shutter, for me, are during the off beats, the in betweens, the times when people have let down their guards and are truly themselves. when i look at these images i think of them as still frames of a film we are living. emotion gives images life. there are so many facets to an experience, and i try to capture as much sensory imagery as i can, so that we can step into the memory of that particular session. childhood is a wonder. it is raw, intense, soft, natural, touching. it is so important to me to respect my subjects, especially when they are children, because each of them is a whole world, in themselves. my ideal client is someone who allows me to see their family as i see mine…with a lens of love, wanting to freeze them as they are, so unique, so special. personal work molds our philosophies as artists, and i my voice feels very clear in this set of photos. i shoot with a nikon d700, and these were all taken using my sigma 50 1.4, nearly all wide open.
