I have loved photography since I was a child but only decided to get serious about it 5 years ago. In that time I also became a wife, mother, and kept working full-time to support my photography habit. I taught myself to shoot with time and patience, practicing as often I could and anywhere I was able. Ashley Boomer Photography is a one-woman operation located in Coalinga, CA but services all of the Central Valley and throughout the state. This senior shoot was special to me because it really embraces the area in which I live and work in. Shooting in and around Coalinga can be fun but can also be very challenging at the same time. Due to drastic weather changes, crops turning, denied access to lands, and much more, “good” shooting locales can often change on a weekly basis. This allows, and almost demands, a photographer to be creative and really look outside-the-box. Shelbee was a dream to work with because she really understood that what some people may often consider an eyesore, a pile of junk, or an old run-down home, can really add some beauty and dimension to photographs. To be able to photograph someone who can add such sunshine and happiness to what may usually look like a dreary place to be is very freeing as a photographer. Capturing the young and the old along with the natural and the man-made together makes for great senior portraits and interesting talking points. Shooting began around 5:00pm while there was still plenty of ambient light coming through Warthan Canyon. As we made our way up through the mountain range, the sun getting lower by the hour, we made stops at many places along the roadside that allowed for creative and inspired shots. By the time we reached our final shooting location the natural light was absolutely perfect for making Shelbee shine like that star she is.
