As a portrait photographer in a rural area, I’m always looking for unique opportunities to showcase local stories. When Bentley’s mother posted a picture on Facebook of Bentley wearing her grandmother’s childhood dress, I knew I had to photograph her in it. We took these pictures on their family farm in Northeast Alabama – a spot full of beautiful trees, fields, and sunlight. The final result was something very timeless and very innocent– it reminded me of Jenny as a little girl in Forrest Gump. Now every time I look at these images I think of Jenny’s line in the film as she prays in the middle of a cornfield, “God, make me bird so I can fly far, far, far away from here.”
