My name is Madison Chase Fairburn and I am the owner of M. Chase Narrative Photography based in Richmond, VA. A few things about myself unrelated to photography — I have a mean sweet tooth, I adore red, love sarcasm, and unfortunately, I have expensive taste in just about everything. :) THIS week (May 1st) actually marks the 2nd year of business for me, and I am so excited to be going to my 3rd year as a Wedding & Portrait photographer!! I am a 2008 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts — I am a business owner, working artist, and high school art & photography teacher. Truthfully, most of my time is spent in a wet darkroom between my personal artwork and teaching my students, rather than a digital darkroom. I am LOVER of film photography, and I believe this is where I’m strongest as an artist, but understand that my clients’ needs are met digitally. I love to shoot in both digital and film formats whenever it’s possible! The bulk of my personal artwork has always been story telling. Therefore, I’d like to offer the same narrative quality to be a driving force in the way I approach photography for others be it for high school seniors, family sessions, or weddings.
Haylie and I have been collaborating on ideas, styles, outfits, venues, and the overall concept for her senior session since January — her 40′s style inspiration comes from a very personal place. Over the past year, much of Haylie’s own artwork has been influenced by her Grandmother. We kept the style in the 30′s / 40′s — WWII era — and we wanted to have elements of both Haylie and her Granny present – a mix of old and new. Haylie’s personal style consists of lots of layers, like oversize sweaters, throwback t-shirts, scarfs, and lots of flats — and she’s always out to find a good bargain. We certainly wanted to keep some of those elements within our concept. Haylie chose the outfits – giving herself one very vintage look, another more modern approach, and something more casual. I work with a local salon, Guys & Dolls Salon & Spa, who really out did themselves and made the vision come to life with the perfect addition of hair and make up for this session. The best part of all — all the jewelry is her Granny’s! The beautiful orange earrings, bracelet, both necklaces, and even the watch. I love that so much. We also used her Grandmother’s suitcases and Bible. The personal touches make this shoot one of a kind.
