About my business: I’m a wife, mom, and self taught, natural light photographer located in Tucson, Arizona. I have a boutique style photography business specializing in authentic, contemporary custom portraiture for high school seniors and children. I shoot with a Canon 5D MKIII, I’m in love with my 85mm 1.2L lens, and have a serious addiction to stylish camera bags, coffee, lip gloss and guacamole. Not always in that order.

About this session: A couple of photographer friends and I got together to shake off the borings and do a little “just for us” shooting.  As natural light, on-location photographers who primarily shoot little kids, families and high school seniors, we wanted to do something a little more “grown up”, and something that would challenge us a bit technically.  We came up with our “Crush” inspired theme, and found a laundromat location with indoor fluorescent light, crowded, cluttered spaces, and little control over our environment. As it turned out, it was an amazing location for light! The white walls and floor were awesome natural reflectors, and we had two whole walls of floor to ceiling windows, where the afternoon sunlight just poured in and created a perfect softbox for us. We chose to go with minimal styling for wardrobe, and shopped for some props. I loved the retro Orange Crush soda pop we found and the fun patterned straws! They were perfect for our shoot theme.

Our models Cassie and Mike were a breeze to work with. They did such a great job working together and were totally up for anything, including pretending they were a couple – even though they just met at the shoot! They were amazing at playing out our “Crush” day time drama.
